OBJECTIVES
Raise money for the operation
of our orthopedic and burn unit, Shriners Hospitals for Children
Having fun, fellowship and a good time, while generating these funds
Making the public aware of charity work performed by the Masons and Shriners

The Shrine Oriental Band is the
public side of the Shrine's "Sons of the Desert" identity. Our Middle
Eastern type costuming is likely the most colorful in the Shrine.
It takes many men to help in this
great philanthropy When you see us coming down the street, give us a wave
and a smile. The Shriners Hospitals provide treatment for no charge to the
child.
A musical background is not necessary
to join our Shrine unit -we will train you in whatever area you wish to participate!
Our authentic Arabic music, uniforms and instruments are furnished - all you
need is a head scarf and your shoes!
We are proud of our many first-place
accomplishments in parades, Shrine Ceremonials, Imperial (International) Competitions,
Midwest Competitions and the many other Shrine and Masonic functions. We enjoy
helping with the sales of Shrine Circus tickets, and the production and sale
of those wonderful circus souvenir balloons!
The Z.O.B. is a close-knit organization
that displays an esprit de corps that is far above most! We have many social
functions annually including our ladies, the "Shebas". We are also
proud to have in our membership three Past Potentates - Earl V. Ruedy, Donald
A. Nelson, and Gerald D. Anderson.

COMPETITION
The band competes in parades and stage competition with other Oriental Bands.
They are judged for uniforms, make up, musical presentation and overall performance
UNIFORMS
The Dress Uniform consists of a Fez with the Oriental Band lettering on it,
a Red Sport Coat, Black Pants, White Shirt and Black Tie.
Parade and Ceremonial uniforms take on middle eastern look, consisting of
usually very colorful outfits, with Curley-toed gold shoes, a head dress,
and blousy purple shirts with green blousy pants, trimmed by a red vest, all
made from satin type materials. The "GOLD CURLY TOED SHOES", a marquee
of the Oriental Band, are purchased by the new member unless a pair which
has been donated back to the band is available for use. These shoes are usually
a current pair which are comfortable for walking and are taken to a shoe repair
parlor and have the curls added to them. Prices vary and we constantly look
for vendors who will do this work for us. Once made the member paints them
with gold spray paint.
These uniforms are provided by
the band for new active and potentially active members along with your designated
instrument. The added jewelry for pageantry is the members responsibility
and is often found at garage sales over the summer months. Gaudy jewelry is
appropriate but must be kept in Masonic Tenants. Makeup is provided by the
Band for necessary usage. The uniforms and equipment provided by the Band
are the Bands property.
MAKE-UP
Make up consists of beards and mustaches, with skin darkened with makeup and
shadow, to take on a weather beaten look
